How to get the most accurate numbers
Every calculator here starts from geometry: square feet of wall, cubic yards of concrete, squares of roof. Then it applies the coverage or yield printed by the people who make the product, adds a waste allowance that matches how the job is really done, and rounds up to the units a store actually sells.
- Measure the real surface. Use the square footage calculator for odd-shaped rooms and L-shaped patios before you open a material calculator.
- Type in your local price. Defaults are typical US prices, but every price field can be edited and the totals update as you type.
- Keep the waste factor. Cuts, breakage and uneven ground are real. Running short mid-project costs more than one extra box or bag.
- Check your local code. Decks, footings, roofing and anything structural must meet your local building code and may need a permit.
Each calculator saves your inputs in its link, so you can bookmark a project, send it to a partner or bring it to the store.
